A locksmith demonstrates programming a new key for a 2019 Land Rover Range Rover with a locked RFA module. He disassembles the rear cargo area trim to access the RFA module, then connects the Lock50 adapter to the RFA and a laptop. Using the JLR key tool software, he programs a new Lock50 clonable key by first reading the existing customer key and then writing the new key's data. The new key successfully starts and locks/unlocks the vehicle.

Today I'm Wilson Noble Locksmith and you're watching my YouTube channel Car Key Wizard. I'm an automotive locksmith and while I definitely don't know it all, I have learned some tricks along the way that I hope will help you while you're out in the field. One thing you can do to help me out though would be to subscribe to my channel. And if you like my videos, leave a comment or ask a question and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I make a lot of videos, so if there's something you'd like to learn more about or a video you'd like to see on a car we're working on, just let me know in the comments and I'll put it up as soon as I can. Thanks and I hope you enjoy watching my videos. Good morning. Noble Locksmith here. Working on a 2019 Land Rover Range Rover. This vehicle has a locked RFA. Customer already has a key, but since this is for a wholesaler, they don't have the app to be able to unlock the RFA. So even though they got a key and a locked RFA, we cannot program a new key to this car. So what we gotta do is use Lock50, the best tool on the market to make keys for Land Rover and Jaguar. And we gotta get to the RFA which is back here in the trunk behind here. Uh, how do you do that? Well, I have no idea. So we're gonna start pulling trim apart because that's the way you do it. And uh if you're a locksmith, then you know that's the way you do it. 'Cause I didn't see any... All right, well, that was uh pretty easy. I saw Shawn do this, it looked like the RFA was up in here, but might be A lot of times it's on the left side. It ain't on this side. It was on the left side for him. I don't see it on this side. So, let's move everything over here. Hahaha. Shawn must have been working on a different car, 'cause this one is up in here. So we found it and we're gonna pull it out. All right, so there's our RFA module right there. Um, and per the video, we're gonna leave the gray plug plugged in and we're just gonna unplug this big fat plug right here. So that's the plug we unplug because we're gonna plug our plug in there. All right, we got my Lock50 set here. Got laptop set up. And I bought this a little while back. Uh it's DJI Power 1000. It's just a standalone battery basically. But this thing lasts forever. And so I just have this in my van and, uh, you know, right now I got 50% and it's saying it'll last about 10 hours. I mean, all I use it for is laptops. But instead of running a long extension cord, uh, dealing with that, I just pull this out, set it by the car and I'm good. So we got our Lock50 adapter here. As you can see, there's our plug. So we're gonna go ahead and get underneath and plug that in. All right. And then we've got the other plug here. Other side of it that we're gonna plug in to there. And our other end here is going to go into our Lock50 cradle, the key programmer. I want to say it's the HW01, but I get, I shouldn't be so confused with this stuff still, but I am. Um, but Eliana sends out a great, uh, a great little sheet, cheat sheet that I can look back at when I have questions. All right. So then we're gonna plug in to your laptop. This laptop has the worst glare any laptop I own. But I really like this laptop. So we're gonna open up JLR key tool. We're gonna grab our key. The HW14 clonable key. And we got WiFi going from another sweet little device I got. The Starlink satellite for $50 a month. You can't beat that. I'm out here in the middle of nowhere and the internet is not great here. So we got our key here, our sweet little Lock50 key. We're just gonna go ahead and... No, first we need to have the customer's key first. So we're gonna grab that from up here. Eliana makes some great videos with Sean. So, first thing we're gonna do is go to diag utilities. We're going to scan, do a network integrity test. I'm gonna try to put this sucker on my buttocks. Again, like I told you, I'm a horrible videographer because I'm a locksmith, not a videographer. All right. So, uh, we scanned our our device, our car. We're gonna go down to special tools. Key duplicator is the next step. Key duplicator. This function is attended for locked RFA where add spare key function is not provided or alarm is armed. All right. Click to start data protection says this function requires a special clonable JLR key which we have here, we've purchased from ING and uh, use a special RFA adapter which, you know, we've already hooked up. So we're gonna do a scan. I've been told that this will fail the first time. So let's see if that is accurate. Uh, it didn't fail. Okay. Oh, maybe it fails here. So basically it says the serial number, alarm mode is disarmed because this was never armed but the RFA is locked. So pass is passive entry, remote lock, and emergency start all allowed for copy. So we're gonna hit okay. Maybe this is where it fails. I don't know if, you can't see my screen. I'm just walking you through this. It's just not gonna be possible. So yeah, the RFAs are almost always on the left side of the vehicle. The one I was video I was watching Shawn do was on the right side. That's why I pulled that but this these trim panels pull off pretty easily, so wouldn't a big deal. Yeah, that must be where it fails, Sean was talking about. So then we're just gonna go back, go through this again. We're going to just hit okay again. Ah, it did go. Okay. Learn key to vehicles. Okay, so this is was real important. Learn keys in vehicles. Learn key in vehicle two. So the key the car already has two keys programmed. You can prepare up to two keys. If you have an existing key, use it first. So we have the existing key. Place the key on the reader and hit okay. So key's on the reader. This is the customer's key. We're gonna hit okay. Read key. All right, existing key was can existing key was detected. Key is currently programmed in position one. So we're gonna click okay to continue. Place next key on reader and click next, and clicked okay. Read key, write key. So it must have seen that okay, this key is, all right. Key has been written. Key is currently programmed. Key position two. So we're gonna click okay. Two keys have been programmed. There's no way that's it. There's no way. But if it is, shows you again why Lock50 kills it. Those boys over in the UK have put together something pretty special here. So let's hook back up this RFA and, um, I might have just, uh, finished the job. I don't know. Uh, so let's put the customer's key over here in the car. We'll put both keys in the car. Show you we got no start, smart key not recognized. So grab the customer's key. Now, let's just grab our key. Hop in the car. No way! No way! Now, let's think through this. If I had everything set up, this is the first time I've done this and I did it again, it's gonna take me longer to get my laptop out of the bag and get everything set up than it will for me to do this job. So, open the back of the car, pull the trim off, which you saw probably takes 30 seconds. Unplug the RFA, plug the adapters in. I'd say if I pulled up on a job and I knew it was a locked RFA and that's what I had to do, I could do this job in 10 minutes. Um, and from what I've been told this is gonna be a three-$4,000 job, uh, at the dealership. They're gonna replace, I just going to replace the RFA. So, we're done. Let's get out of here.
