When the RFA or KVM is LOCKED, Version A cannot add keys over OBD — you can optionally buy a token for that job, or move up to HW04-B. Add the SW27 New-RFA-Programming licence (£1,000 ex-VAT) to make this an HW04-A+ — CAN flashing plus replace/program an RFA, but only when the BCM is NOT locked (buying now saves £500 vs later). A/A+ is CAN only — for DOIP flashing on 2022+ EVA2 vehicles you need Version B or above.
Copying a key is free on an unlocked RFA or KVM — a token is only needed to copy when the module is locked.
On an unlocked RFA/BCM you copy a key free — from an MCU dump or key-to-key. Copying a key cannot be done over OBD — over OBD you add a key, which is only possible when the module is unlocked. To copy a key when the RFA or KVM is locked you need the copy token (SW36 Key duplicator RFA when locked 2017–2025 £500 · SW34 HW05/HW06 PCF7953 key duplicator when KVM locked 2010–2022 £150), or you can move up to HW04-B where fitting a new RFA and adapting it is included. Adding SW27 makes this A+ — CAN flashing and replace/program an RFA, but only when the BCM is not locked. SW27 on A+ runs over the HW03-D dual-CAN cable only (not the E cable).

Who Version A is for
For locksmiths who mostly add or replace keys on non-UWB JLR from 2010 on. Cheapest per-key rate, with the option to add New RFA programming (SW27) when you need it.
Which connection a job needs.
- KVM system (the generation before RFA, roughly 2010–2021): every job is done over OBD only — KVM does not use a locked RFA, so there is nothing else to connect to.
- RFA system: the key is still read and programmed over OBD; where the RFA is locked and UWB is enabled you also make a quick connection to the RFA to authorise the immobiliser first — still no soldering and no removing parts.
- On Version A that locked-RFA / locked-KVM route is unlocked with a per-job token (SW36 Key duplicator RFA when locked 2017–2025 £500 · SW34 HW05/HW06 PCF7953 key duplicator when KVM locked 2010–2022 £150) or by moving up to HW04-B.
Need the UWB / 2022+ cars too? A/A+ works over CAN. For DoIP flashing on 2022+ EVA2 vehicles step up to HW04-B; for locked-RFA UWB keys with no tokens, HW04-C — every token you buy on A is credited towards that step.
Start on A, move up gradually. Version A is the everyday key-programming tier. Step up to B, C or C+ as the work comes in — every per-job token you spend on A is credited 100% towards your next upgrade.

From Version A to C+ — how you climb, step by step
Every SW36 key token you buy on Version A is credited 100% (£ for £) towards your next tier — so you can work your way up job by job instead of paying the upgrade in one go. Step by step:

Start on HW04-A (£2,500)
- You get the full HW04 hardware and all 5 cables — the same unit as every higher version.
- The standard key jobs are built in: read keys, add / remove keys on an unlocked RFA or BCM, precoding, diagnostics, alarm-off and CCF UWB on/off. First 12 months of updates are free.
- When the RFA or KVM is locked, Version A cannot add keys over OBD — you can optionally buy a token for that job (SW36 new/spare key £500 · SW34 key copy £150), or move up to HW04-B.
- Every token you buy counts towards a later upgrade — you earn points from day one.

Every token earns points
- Example (SW36, £500 token): on a locked module you pay £500 for the token and program the key — over OBD on a KVM car, or over OBD plus a quick connection to the RFA on a locked RFA/UWB car — and that £500 is credited 100% towards your next tier.
- Spend on a job → earn points → redeem for more keys. Points never expire.
- More jobs = more points = more keys for free.

Grow your tier — A → B → C → C+
To move up a tier you buy the upgrade licence — no need to send the tool back. What you already paid on per-job licences is credited towards your upgrade. Every HW04 is the same hardware: your version is a licence unlocked in software, remotely.

How upgrades & tokens work
- On Version A the 19 modules listed above are built in with no per-job token. When the RFA or KVM is locked, Version A cannot add keys over OBD — you can optionally buy a paid licence (a “token”) for that job, or move up to HW04-B.
- To move up a tier you buy the upgrade licence below — no need to send the tool back. What you already paid on per-job licences is credited towards your upgrade.
- The higher your package, the cheaper every per-job licence becomes — on C and C+ all key jobs are included with no tokens.
- Points also pay for SW36 / SW34 keys, key packs, CCF activations, tier upgrades or a Lifetime Licence — up to 100% with points.
Software renewals & what they cost
Your first 12 months of software updates are included with every paid tier. After that, updates renew at the rate below — or take a one-off 24-month or lifetime plan and never think about it again. Renewals only cover new software updates; your tool keeps working on its current version either way.

HW04-A
One tool. Add or replace keys on non-UWB JLR from 2010 on — cheapest per-key rate.
The Lock50 HW04 does lost keys, spare keys, alarm-off and key copies on Land Rover & Jaguar — no soldering, no removing parts. Most jobs run straight through the OBD port: on the older KVM system (roughly 2010–2021, the generation before RFA) every job is OBD-only. On the newer RFA system — especially where UWB is switched on — if the RFA is locked you also make a quick connection to the RFA itself to authorise the immobiliser; the key is still read and programmed over OBD. On Version A the everyday key jobs on an unlocked RFA or KVM are built in with no per-job token; when the RFA or KVM is locked you can optionally buy a token for that job or move up to HW04-B — and every token you buy is credited 100% towards your next upgrade.
