✅ Scenario A: Customer Has 2 Working Keys — Direct OBD Unlock
When you have 2 working keys on an EVA2 vehicle, you can unlock the RFA directly via OBD using the HW03-E DoIP Cable.
- Connect the HW03-E OBD DoIP Cable to the vehicle OBD port.
- Turn ignition ON (Position 2). Both keys must be detected by the vehicle immobilizer.
- Launch Lock50 Software → Special Functions → SW40 Unlock EVA2 RFA.
- Execute OBD unlock. No physical access to the RFA or adapter cables required.
🔑 Scenario B: 0 Keys (All Keys Lost) or Only 1 Working Key — HW03-E Scan + HW03-C Adapter to RFA
When you have 0 keys (all keys lost) or only 1 working key, you cannot unlock via OBD alone. An adapter connection to the RFA is mandatory.
- Connect the HW03-E DoIP Cable to the vehicle OBD-II port.
-
Scan the car in Lock50 software to read vehicle VIN, platform architecture, and module identification.
- Then connect the HW03-C Adapter (using the F1 and M1 connectors) directly to the RFA module (or use HW03-B for direct CAN2 connection at the door module).
- Run the RFA unlock in Lock50 software. The HW03-C hardware bridge provides the secure diagnostic path needed to release the RFA lock.
- Once unlocked, execute Security Key Erase to clear lost keys, then program new Lock50 Fixed ID keys (HW15 to HW26).
⚠ Scenario C: Telematics Phase 4 Plus (Latest System) — Strict 2 Keys Requirement
On late EVA2 vehicles, always inspect the TCU / Telematics configuration in Lock50 software:
RFA Utils / Central Configuration → Telematics Type: Telematics Phase 4 Plus
- If the TCU type in RFA Utils is Telematics Phase 4 Plus, this is JLR's latest high-security architecture.
-
Strict Requirement: You MUST HAVE 2 WORKING KEYS to unlock this type via OBD.
- If you do not have 2 working keys on a Telematics Phase 4 Plus vehicle, OBD unlocking is locked out by the advanced telematics gateway protection.
🛠 The Critical K8D2 Architecture Pairing Rule (EVA2 vs Non-EVA2)
A K8D2 RFA module is ONLY an EVA2 system when paired with a Body Control Module (BCM) of type L8B2, M8E2, R8E2, or S8E2.
If an earlier vehicle has a K8D2 RFA paired with a JPLA BCM, it is an early non-EVA2 architecture. On this non-EVA2 variant, OBD software unlocking with SW40 is not possible — you must either duplicate keys directly using SW36 with the HW03-C adapter, or replace the module with an unlocked / virgin RFA.
⚠ Important BCM Gate Note:
SW40 unlocks the RFA, but does
not unlock the BCM. To replace an RFA with a locked BCM, use the “Replace RFA with locked BCM” special function — see
SW28. It works on a fully functional vehicle with original configuration without unauthorized module swaps.
