Before starting SW30 or SW40, run RFA Check Keys in the vehicle. Complete this check before running the function; a desktop key-reader result is not a substitute.
Reader check versus vehicle detection: Reading a key on the Lock50 reader checks the key itself; it does not prove that the vehicle can detect it. RFA Check Keys checks which keys the vehicle actually detects. When checking for two keys, put both keys inside the car at the same time and confirm that Check Keys detects two, rather than relying on stored key slots or possession of two fobs.
If Check Keys disconnects: A communication loss does not automatically mean a faulty key. Vehicle or dashboard sleep is one possible cause, not a confirmed diagnosis. Follow the software ignition instructions, restore communication and rerun Check Keys before relying on the result.
SW40 eligibility: Direct OBD unlocking requires two detected keys. With Telematics Phase 4 Plus, two keys must be detected together for either OBD or CAN-wires unlocking. If Check Keys cannot see two keys, do not run SW40 on Phase 4 Plus; service mode is not a substitute. The supported non-Phase-4-Plus CAN route retains its existing conditions.
Place both keys inside the car at the same time and run RFA Check Keys. Confirm that the vehicle detects two keys; owning two fobs or seeing two stored key slots is not enough. When two keys are detected on a supported EVA2 vehicle, use SW40 with the HW03-E DoIP Cable for direct OBD unlocking.
The existing 0/1-key CAN-wires route applies only to supported EVA2 vehicles without Telematics Phase 4 Plus; it does not bypass the Phase 4 Plus two-key requirement. Check the TCU type before using the adapter instructions below. If it is Phase 4 Plus and Check Keys cannot see two keys, do not attempt SW40 by either connection method.
On late EVA2 vehicles, always inspect the TCU / Telematics configuration in Lock50 software:
A K8D2 RFA module is ONLY an EVA2 system when paired with a Body Control Module (BCM) of type L8B2, M8E2, R8E2, or S8E2.
If an earlier vehicle has a K8D2 RFA paired with a JPLA BCM, it is an early non-EVA2 architecture. On this non-EVA2 variant, OBD software unlocking with SW40 is not possible — you must either duplicate keys directly using SW36 with the HW03-C adapter, or replace the module with an unlocked / virgin RFA.
