Hello everyone, this is Sean with Lock50.co.uk. In the previous video, you guys saw how we remove the RFA module from a specific vehicle. Now we have the RFA module in our hands. We're gonna go ahead and open it up and I'll show you how to read it. So there are two screws, two torque screws, and there are tabs around three sides of the unit, which is going to get it open. Once we have the RFA open, this is the communication port that we're going to go for, right here. We're going to be using a clip that is supplied with the Lock50. This is the clip. It has pogo pins that's going to drop right into those holes. And then we'll be able to have communication with the module and be able to read it. So this is how it sits. That's the right orientation. Just going to land it right there. And then I'd like to show you guys on we're going to be using VVDI Prog in this case. I'm going to show you the correct choice of file. So this is our choice. We're going to go type 2 MCU under ST. And then we're going to choose the SPC 560. There are two options that are close and these are it. So we are 560, and I'll show you in a moment how to see it. And then this is the mask on our specific RFA. They can be different. In just a moment I'll show you the mask as well. Gonna use a digital magnifying glass. I'll take the clip off just so you guys can see the writing. Here you go. I hope it's coming true. So you can see SPC 560 B as in Bravo 60L3. So this is our mask. I'm going to go ahead and attach the the the clip again. After choosing the right mask on the software, what we care for is D flash, which is chosen right here. And then I'm going to hit read. All right, I'll put the phone down. I'm going to go ahead and save the file as D flash, and then I'll show you how I open it in our software. All right, we have read and save the D flash file. Now we're going to run the new version 1010 of Lock50. We're going to go ahead and run workshop. We'll choose a dump file, choose the dump file. And this is the information we can see. We can see the Vin number, we can see the SK. And then we can see that we have two keys. I'm going to go ahead and emulate key number one. So next step will be this is our hardware, and this is our hardware. That's that's the new style Emulator. We're going to place an Emulator right on top of the Lock50. And then we're going to go ahead and hit copy key. We'll choose key number one. You can choose one or two. In our case, we're going to choose key number one. And then go ahead and okay, that it's asking us to set the Emulator on the device. And that's all. We're going to go ahead and check the key. So we can have a confirmation before even trying it on the vehicle. And you can see that everything this is fine. The check keyless ID fails. That's not a problem. Everything is confirmed and working. And in the next video, I'll show you how it works on the vehicle and how it gets it out of alarm mode. Hello, everyone. Sean with Lock50.co.uk. Behind the camera, we got Liam, he's helping me out. So the car is locked. We're going to go ahead and open it with a key to set up the alarm. And then we're going to show the Lock50 is going to get the vehicle out of alarm mode. This is the emulator we just made. I'm going to put the key right the emergency start, push the start button and we can see that the car is out of alarm mode. Welcome to a demo of the Lock 50 hw zero four c package. Today we shall add two OEM PPS original keys into a locked RFA via OBD. After scan the car, go to the PEPs key learning routine and start the add keys function. Place new OEM key on reader when asked and then put the key on the passenger seat when asked. Key id is detected and position three in locked RFA is shown where it will go. Add next key on lock 50 and proceed to add another. Lock 50 detects the next key on the reader and proceed to add it. Finally place all keys on the passenger seat to finish, write the BCM ID and complete the job. Boom. Just like that, the impossible is. Done. That's flaming mint. Is that.

Dealer vs independent locksmith

A main-dealer spare key is typically the most expensive route once you add the key, programming and any recovery. An independent locksmith using a Lock50 HW04 tool programs the same key over OBD, usually at a fraction of the time and cost.

Hi, and welcome to a demo of the Lock50 HW04C package. Task is to make keys and turn of the alarm and program new keys. As well as obtaining access to the RFA after opening the boot. See also the next video coming soon to demo of unlocking the RFA for EVA2 vehicles that have the PV Pro systems. When we log in via OBD2 to vehicle, we can see all info and in control modules can try open RFA but as it's armed, cannot be read. Also, if you go to PEPS System page here, also will tell status of RFA and vehicles and keys inside. It's important to check the vehicle has UWB enabled. Can see the TCU info as C has the highest protection plus system and is armed, and has two keys stored in the system. Now the boot opening method is shown and this one can be done without opening the boot, but may require you take more time. RFA is located on the left side, as in picture and video. Now connect the HW-03C-RFA adapter to Lock50 HW-04C tool and begin to scan the vehicle. Follow screen prompts and add each key you wish to copy. For this job, one is enough to do. Key used is a W13 key. Save having to swap to a new BCM TCU and RFA. Simplify your programming task with the Lock50 HW04 JLR tools and save money and get jobs done faster. Now place the keys one by one on Lock50. We doing two keys for test purposes for the demo video, but you can do one which will be ready for starting the vehicle with keyless and remote working to disarm the vehicle. All done job completed. No, just remove Lock50 HW04C RFA adapter and connect RFA back as normal and test keys. So here we have a 2025 Velar, all keys lost. No module replacement, RFA in the back. New key, using this tool. How JLR Immobiliser & Keyless Entry Works

Every Jaguar and Land Rover built since roughly 2010 uses a PEPS (Passive Entry Passive Start) system. The key talks to the car's RFA (Remote Function Actuator) and BCM (Body Control Module), which together decide whether a key is allowed to start the vehicle. To add or erase a key you must communicate securely with these modules — that is exactly what a JLR key programming tool does over the OBD port.

The Three Jobs You'll Face Most

  • Spare key added — customer still has one working key and wants a backup.
  • All keys lost (AKL) — no working key; the tool must read the immobiliser data and generate a fresh key.
  • Locked RFA / BCM — later vehicles ship with a security-locked module that must be unlocked before any key can be added.

OBD vs Module Removal

Older methods meant removing the RFA or BCM from the car and reading it on the bench. Modern Lock50 tools do the whole job through the OBD port with no module removal on most 2010–2024 vehicles — faster, cleaner, and far less risk to the customer's car.

Right, lads, pull up a chair because I've got a proper one for you today. You remember that Range Rover I took on back end of last year? Up in the middle of nowhere, pouring down, customer pacing up and down like a caged lion. Oh, no. Is this the one you were texting me about at midnight? That's the one. I rocked up full of beans, thought I had it sussed. Plugged the tool in, fired up the software, and nothing. Just sat there blinking at me like a goldfish. Let me guess, no support line. Not a sniff. I fire off an email thinking someone will come back in 20 minutes. Two days later, I get a reply saying, "Have you tried restarting the device?" Mate, I've tried restarting my life at that point. Stop it. I'm not joking. By the time I admitted defeat, that motor had been sat on the drive for the best part of 48 hours. Customer's fuming, I'm fuming, and the only option left was a flatbed to the main dealer. And that's when the real fun starts. 3 grand. 3 grand. Cause the dealer sees a car on the back of a truck with a dodgy key setup, and suddenly it's a full module swap, reprogramming the lot. I ended up eating most of that bill myself to keep the customer sweet. Ouch. That's a holiday gone that. That's more than a holiday, Tom. That's your quarterly tax bill evaporating on one botched job. And the worst part, it wasn't my skill that let me down. It was the tool. I trusted something that wasn't fit for purpose and I paid the price. You learned the hard way. Had our hands burnt, love. Properly burnt. Me and the lads sat down after that and we said, "Right, never again. We're not putting another customer through that. We're not putting ourselves through that. Whatever we use next, it's got to actually work when it matters." See, I've been lucky so far, touch wood. But I hear stuff like that and it does make you think. Tom, you want to think about it now? Trust me, before it happens to you. I had my own version of that nightmare about a year ago. Go on, then. Sunday morning, drizzly. I'm two hours from home on a keyless Jag. Lovely customer. She's got kids in the back of a courtesy car, just wants to get on with her day. I'm feeling confident because I've done a few of these. Get the tool out, connect up, start the procedure, and halfway through, the software just locks up. Screen goes white. No error, no warning, nothing. Ah. So I try to back out gracefully. Tool won't respond. I unplug, replug, restart. Now the car won't even recognize the old key, dead in the water. And of course, it's Ascende, so who am I going to ring? There's no phone number. There's never a phone number with that lot. It's all raise a ticket. A ticket on a Sunday, a ticket on a Sunday. A ticket on a Sunday. I raised three of them. I got an automated reply telling me my request was important to them and they'd respond within 48 working hours. 48. 48. The customer is standing next to me, Tom. I can't tell her 48 working hours, love. See you Wednesday. What did you do? Same as you. I had to call a recovery truck and send it to the dealer, apologized, ate the call out, paid part of the diagnostic and spent a week waiting for a support reply that, when it came, was basically, "We're looking into it." That was the reply. "We're looking into it." Looking into it. Brilliant. By the time they came back with anything useful, I'd already moved on, replaced the tool and written that whole episode off as a very expensive lesson. That was the moment I realized, if there's no one at the end of a phone on a bad day, you haven't got a tool, you've got a paperweight. Bloody hell, see, this is why I'm asking questions. I don't want to be that bloke on a drive in the rain with the dead Range Rover and a customer filming me for TikTok. Don't joke. That's exactly how it happens now. And the thing is, Tom, it's not even your fault when it goes wrong. You can be the best locksmith in the country, but if the tool behind you isn't keeping up, you're going down with it. All right, so let's actually talk about why this is happening, because I keep hearing JLR have locked it down. JLR have locked it down. What does that actually mean in plain English? Good question, and it's bigger than most people realize. Way bigger. Way bigger. Right, so the brain of the car, for our purposes, is that body control module. That's the bit that authorizes new keys. For years, most of the aftermarket tools were copying data off that module over the diagnostic port. Quick, clean, work to treat. That's the whole game. That's the game. Well, JLR have sat down and thought, "Hang on, we don't love that." So they've started locking those modules. And I don't just mean on the shiny new motors. I mean, every single model from 2017 all the way through to 2025 and beyond, the lot, locked, locked. Every model from 2017 onward. Seriously? Seriously. That's millions of cars on the road in this country alone. And here's the kicker. The high-performance stuff, the bigger luxury platform, that's already been pushed back to 2017. Already done, already live. And that caught a lot of people out overnight, basically. One week you're coining it on 2019 Range Rovers. Next week, your tool's staring at you blank because the door's been bolted shut on the module. What about older cars? Surely the older stuff is safe for now. For now. But the word on the grapevine, and it's pretty solid word, is that they're going back further. The older stuff, with the earlier key and vehicle module, the ones that go back to 2013, 2014 era. That's next on the list, any day now. And when that drops, it's gonna be carnage for anyone not prepared. Carnage how? Think about it. Every tool on the market that relies on pulling data off that module through the port, and that's most of them, goes dark overnight, blocked, finished, until their manufacturer, wherever they're based, pushes an update that can deal with the new lockdown. And most of them can't or won't, or take months. And months is the polite version. Some of them, honestly, you're waiting and waiting and the update just never really lands, or Or it lands half-baked and makes things worse. So what do their users do in the meantime? They do what I did, mate. They sit on a driveway with a dead car and a customer they can't help. That's what they do. And this is the bit that separates Lock 50 from the rest. Honestly, because Lock 50 had been moving in lockstep with JLR every single step of the way. The minute JLR drops a change, Lock 50 are on it. Updates ready, tested, pushed out. Users don't even break stride. That's the big one for me. It's no, that's the big one for me. It's not about what the tool does on a good day, it's about what happens the Monday morning JLR changes the rules. Every other tool I've owned has gone quiet at that moment. Lock 50 just carries on. A conference clerk in the old school days. So when the older stuff gets locked down, the 2013 onwards with that earlier module, Lock 50 will already be ready for it. That's the whole philosophy. They see it coming, they're working on it before it hits the street. By the time it drops, the solution's already in the software or days away. That's not luck, Tom. That's engineering and it's support. And it's support. Because even the best software in the world is going to have the odd wobble. The question is, when it wobbles, is someone picking up a phone? Exactly. And with Lock 50, someone is every time. Oh, right. All right, so JLR have basically pulled up the drawbridge across their whole modern range. They're about to extend it to the earlier stuff, and the tools that can't keep up are leaving their users stranded. That's the size of it. That's the size of it. And it's not a one-off. This is the new normal. JLR, aren't going to slow down, they're going to keep tightening, keep patching, keep closing doors. Any tool that isn't built to move with them is, to be honest, a dead man walking. Blimey. Sorry to be dramatic, but it's true. And that brings us on to the other tools, doesn't it? Yeah, let's do it. Because I've seen a lot of cheap kit on the forums and people swear by them until they don't. Until they don't is right. The pattern's always the same, Tom. Bit of kit comes in from abroad, it's cheap, it looks the part early on. It even works all right on the right cars, in the right order, wind blowing the right way. And the sellers talk a good game. Oh, they talk a brilliant game. Lovely marketing, flashy videos. Covers this, covers that. Next update coming soon. Next update's always coming soon, never Ashley arrives in the state you need it in. What about the support side of it? Because you've both been stung on that. Uh. Support with the foreign kit is, and I'm being generous here, a joke. There's no phone line, there's no British office, there's no bloke you can ring at half four on a wet Tuesday who actually knows the car you're stood in front of. It's all email, it's all tickets, and half the time you can't even tell if a human's reading them. Language barrier on top of that sometimes. You get a reply that's been run through a translator three times and it tells you to kindly restart with the car ignition in the helpful mode. Helpful mode. Helpful mode, Tom. That's actually close to something I got back once. And then the updates, even when they do come, they don't always work. You'll download a new version, plug in, and find that something that worked fine yesterday is now broken. They fixed one car and bricked another, and there's no proper changelog, no proper testing, no proper ownership. So what happens is, and this is the really sad bit, the lads using those tools start getting scared. I've spoken to so many who won't travel more than five or 10 miles from their own front door, really. Really? Hand on heart, because they know if it goes wrong, they've got to be close enough to limp the tool home, pick up another, or rope in a mate. They can't take a two-hour job because they daren't be two hours from base. Their whole business is shrunk down to a little circle on a map. And meanwhile, the work that comes in on those longer routes, the high-value jobs, the out of hours, the ones with fat margins, those end up with us. They end up with us because we can fly. Fly how? When you've got a tool behind you that you actually trust, that's been updated for what JLR did last week, that's got a proper number you can ring, that's backed by people who know the cars and know the software, you can pick any job off the board. Two hours away, fine. Three hours, fine. Middle of nowhere on a bank holiday, fine. You're an eagle, mate. You're up there picking and choosing. And the rest are pigeons scratching around the same car park. That's brutal. True, but brutal. So what are these other tools actually admitting to? Because surely at some point they have to be honest about what they can't do. That's the thing, Tom, they'll never are. They'll never come out and say, "We don't support this, we can't do that." Instead, you get these vague promises. Partial support coming soon, under development, in the next update, bogus solutions. Basically, bogus is the word. Bogus is the word. They'll dress up a wreck around that only works one time in five as a feature. They'll put a big tick next to a car on their website, and when you actually get there, the small print says, "Only pre-2016, only manual gearbox, only if it's on a Tuesday." And by the time you've figured out it doesn't work, you've already sunk the money, the training, the time. And worst of all, you've told customers you can do the job. That's the killer, isn't it? Once you've said yes to a customer, you're committed. You're committed. And if the tool lets you down, you're the one standing there apologizing, not the manufacturer on the other side of the world, you. And then we get the call. Honestly, half my week lately is cleaning up after other tools. Lads will ring me and go, "Saf, I've started this, it's gone sideways. Can you come and finish it?" And I can, because Lock 50's up to date. Lock 50's got the support. Lock 50 actually does what it says on the tin. Same here. Same here. I've lost count of how many dead cars we've brought back to life this year that were killed by somebody else's kit. We should be sending invoices to those manufacturers at this point. Fee for the cleanup. Fee for the cleanup. Exactly. But joking aside, Tom, this is the landscape now. JLR have drawn a line in the sand. They're only gonna make it harder from here. The tools that don't keep up are gonna drop away. They're already dropping away, and the people using them are gonna be left with a very simple choice. Either they upgrade to something that actually works, or they walk away from JLR work altogether. And JLR work, let's be honest, is the bread and butter. Range Rovers, discos, jags, evokes, sports, they're everywhere. Lose that work and you're basically a Ford and Vauxhall specialist on half the money. Yeah, nobody wants that. Nobody. Nobody. So the question isn't whether you need a tool that keeps pace with JLR. The question is how long you can afford to go without one. And the answer, from what we've both been through, is not very long at all. Right? Right. So just to pull it all together in my head, the problem is, one, JLR have locked down basically every modern model, and they're coming for the older ones. Two, most tools can't keep up, and the foreign ones especially have no support, dodgy updates and leave you stranded. And three, locksmiths using those tools are shrinking their own business down to a tiny radius because they can't trust their own kit. That's it in one. Nailed it, Tom. So how does Lock 50 actually fix that? Because we've said it in passing, but I want to get into the details. And that, my friend, is exactly where we're going next. Hey guys, we're working on a 2018 Land Rover Sport. We locked the latch manually so we can put the car in alarm mode with the door open. And now we're gonna click the lock button and you guys can see the mirrors in the background folding. It's a good indication to know that the car is in alarm mode. Now I'm gonna pull the door connector. On that specific vehicle it triggers the alarm. We'll have to work around the noise. I'm going to disconnect it. You know here, let me try and just connect it without pulling it. Here you go. Look, I just pulled the sleeve out, and here is the first pair that I'm going to go for. So you can see all the wires are black. You want to get closer so everybody can see that? So all the wires are black. Some are thick, some are thin, et cetera. There are four twisted pairs. Two are skinny like this one, and two are thick like the ones in the middle here. So, we're gonna go with this pair first. So I just pulled that rubber piece down. I'm going to puncture the wires. And then you said that there's one with colored ones. What would, uh, you So on a discovery there is, there, the connector is different. It's a shorter connector and it's wider. You press both fingers, it comes out. And then there, there are colored wires. The, the wires you're going for on a discovery, for example, is mostly yellow with a little bit, with a stripe of purple, and mostly yellow with a stripe of orange. And that's your can high and can low. Let's focus on this one. So I'm going to get to this wire. I'm going to run the needle above my finger, not to get poked, and right into the wire. Here we go. Here we go. This one is going to be in now. Perfect. Now I'm going to go with the second wire. There we go. Try to make sure they don't touch each other. And then we're going to connect our Ken wire alarm off adapter. There we go. There we go. We're connected and separated. I'm gonna try and scan the vehicle. If I get a scan, yep, we're in the right orientation. So you can see we're already reading the vehicle. You're so lucky. Hey, something to point out is we are not connected via OBD. Yes. We're connected only via the CAN wires. Very important. Only CAN wires, and then I'll just demonstrate. If I did not get a read, I would unplug it and reverse the connections. Now, if we're going to go down to PEPS, you guys are going to see that the vehicle is armed. Now we're using an A package. No B or C. Which is in our days, best bang for the buck, and you will be able to make a lot of money and do a lot of jobs with it without investing too much money. We're scrolling all the way down to special tools. You can see that the arm off button is lit up, otherwise it would have been gray. I'm gonna click arm off. You guys have seen that it says armed. I'm gonna hit okay and let it count. If you pay attention closely, you will hear the door lock cycle. And that basically indicates that the process is done and you will get a green screen giving you a confirmation that the process was over. Just be patient. Let it go through the process. And then we can rescan the car and you guys can see that they'll say, it'll say disarmed. You can hear that. And then the mirrors just popped out as well. So you can see no more red light flashing. We got a green screen over here. I don't know if you could hear it in the video, but the door unlocked and the mirror popped out. And then in this one, it is pretty tight to get back there, so it's pretty great that we have the ability to do CAN wire alarm off. Now, if CAN wire alarm off doesn't work, then you're going to have to pull the RFA, correct, and use VVDI Prog. Correct. And which requires an HW14 key on a new style car. I'm gonna scan it just the way it was, so I'm still connected via, via CAN wires. Vehicle locked automatically. We need to undo the door just on a timeout. Okay, so when you, when you hit the unlock button on, on, on the remote, if you don't open the door, the car locks itself automatically. So it will still show armed. This time we're gonna go ahead and do, and do, and do arm off. And then we're I'm gonna unlock the door. We'll open the door. And then it would stay disarmed and I can show you again. So we're going to go through this process again. So again, you can see that the red light is flashing for indicating alarm. And then it should go around the same amount, about 30%. We should, we should see the, the mirrors unfold. And you'll see the little blinkers flashes a couple times on the cluster. Just give it a few more seconds. So again, this is, this it armed again, because I did not pull the door latch to release the latch, and it thinks the door is closed, so it just went back to lock. It won't happen in a, it won't happen in a normal, in a normal situation because your door will be unlocked. We're, for the demonstration purposes, doing it this way so the alarm doesn't go off, the horn doesn't go off. There we go. Green screen. No flashing light on the dash. And this time I'm going to pull the latch. You can go ahead and show the latch right here. It'll pop. So now the door will stay unlocked. And now it will not arm itself again. I'm gonna go ahead and hit okay. I just want to do another scan to show you that it's gonna show disarmed this time. And then we can move our cable to the OBD and just add a key normally. Here we go. Here we go. I'm just gonna go down to PAPS and you can see disarmed. Awesome. That's all. Alright, guys, see you in a bit.

It's now 5 past and we have now programmed in, uh, the original key and the aftermarket key into this. We're just gonna disconnect and test it all and then we'll show you a quick video of that working. Okay, so that's job complete. We are literally 10 past now, just got into the vehicle. Welcome to a demo from Lock 50.
Today's problem is the X250 car battery was drained in. Car was not started for six months and the battery depleted.
We are using the JLR SDD programme with a Bosch JLR DOIP VCI.
This part can take a few minutes and be sure to have battery support connected. If you don't have Battery support unit, then use a vehicle running with jump leads connected.
We start by auto vin and wait for module info to be read from the vehicle.
If at this stage, the Vin was not reading automatically, then it's required to enter the Vin number manually to proceed.
Now, let's start with diagnosis and tell the software some symptoms so we can get advice back as to locate the issue.
Most common issue is the remotes will not work and the vehicle does not start. We will go to the body option and select the security and unlocking options.
Now select the antitheft system options and then passive antitheft and give it some symptoms to tell the SDD where the problem is so it can offer you a solution.
We can see the BCM has a key transponder issue and looks like main culprit.
Scroll down and see the IPC and BBCM and gateway modules have some errors.
First things to do is clear all DTC codes and this will remove the ones that can be cleared. And then we will be left with the ones that need to be solved.
Clock in recommendation tab at the top. And now scroll down to when click on delete DTC codes options.
Be sure to follow on screen ignition cycles.
Now click DTC in the menu at the top and you can see list of the DTC codes for modules that need attention.
Now we want to go back to the session option and click rerun to update the new status of the modules or the DTC codeclear operation.
Now we will see the which module still shows the I. That means DTC. Error codes still remain and then we'll investigate these further. Now.
The BCM has no vin and no calibration data and looks like the main cause here.
Here we will go to the service options and attempt to reprogram the BCM to match up with the keyless system again.
Just checking all modules and Vin numbers to make sure the RFA has a Vin stored in it. And what the module part number is in this vehicle.
It will look for the right soft on server and advice if can update it.
Now let's try to programme the RFA as a new one and programme keys back in as quick fix. But it needs BCM and ReFa programming for full fix. When asked if new module, press yes and use same module as in the car. Again, follow prompts on screen to follow on off cycles.
Some issue here. Incomplete.
How go to extras and try update BCM. It will look for the right soft on server and advice if can update it.
But says this module already on latest level and will not update it, but will fix it to comms again with RFA.
Once done, we want to cheque the current one key that came with the car to see if it starts working, and then add another key in the car for the client as backup. From the service menu, click Continue.
All done and programmed. The update in Rafa complete the operation after clearing the DTC codes.
One code was left. Let's cheque it. Rerun the module's data collection.
Now only one this is left and the software in the KVM is not up to date. And we need supply more symptoms to get the update option in the extra menu.
Even still Vin is not fixed. Then contact us for another solution to get right Vin in the module.
For the fix we used SDD with Bosch deut VCI as pass through. We sell all tools related to JLR keys and BCM programming and offer remote support services.
More video demo coming of. Same problem for Land Rover L494 where BCM is required to be programmed back in with keys after low battery issues.
